Cedar Shakes & Ridge Cap

Our shake grades:

  • #1 - The best grade, taken from the tree’s heartwood, 100% vertical grain with no defects. Used for roofing and sidewalls.

  • #2 - Flat grain with limited sapwood allowed. Limited tight knots and defects allowed above the clear portion (the part that will show once it’s installed). Often used for re-roofing, walls and as a starter course.

  • Mill Grade - Mix of our number 1, 2, and 3. A utility grade for starter, outbuildings, and gable ends. Not for roof application.

  • Ridge Cap - #1 grade. There are 20 per bundle which will cover 17 feet.

Packaging: Wood shakes are packaged five bundles per square. Each bundle will cover 20 square feet for a total of 100 square ft.

24 3/4" Heavy Resaws

24 1/2" Medium Resaws

Heavy split and resawn - sawn on the backside, while the face is split with the natural grain of wood. Has a highly textured surface on the exposed face. This is the heaviest type of wood shake with a very rugged or rustic appearance. Medium split & resawn are similar but not as thick. Clear heartwood, 100% edge grain, no defects. Roof exposure 10" for the 24" shake.

24 5/8" Taper Sawn

Premium #1

Tapersawn - Sawn on both sides like a wood shingle, only thicker. The shake gives a naturally tailored look of a shingle accented by the sharper shadow-line of a shake due to the thickness of the butt. It's the most popular type of wood roof. Same as No 1 Grade, except that all products shall be 100% edge grain. All other descriptions from No 1 Grade apply.
