About
DLM Shake Co.
Harold Metzer moved from Seattle, Washington to St Maries, Idaho in 1976. Originally Harold had opened the mill up the Benewah in St. Maries with his two sons Del & Bob, prior to moving it to Fernwood, Idaho in 1987. The mill operated as the NPO Shake Mill. In 1995 Harold was delivering shakes when a tragic accident happened. When Harold passed due to the accident, his son Del Metzer continued the legacy with his two sons Lance & Casey. The mill now operates under DLM Shake Co.

Sustainability
Today, western red cedar shakes come from carefully managed forests in the Pacific Northwest. DLM Shake Co is a salvage company. We go in and clean up sales from larger logging companies that they've deemed unusable. We reclaim it and cut it into our premium grade shakes and lumber beams. There’s a reason cedar has been used for centuries as a building material. It’s long lasting and it comes from a truly renewable resource. Compared to other building materials such as steel, concrete, plastic and aluminum, wood is the most energy conserving and the only material that’s 100% reusable, recyclable, biodegradable and renewable. When properly produced, cedar roofing has high insulation, high tolerance against the elements, lasts a long time and continues to look great year after year.
